Core Subject Description: This course aims to engage students in appreciation and critical study of 21st Century Literature from the Philippines and the World encompassing their various dimensions, genres, elements, structures, contexts and traditions.

Course Description (21st Century Philippine Literature from the Regions): Study and appreciation of literature of the region where the school is located in relation to the literature of the other regions of the country.

Course Description (21st Century Literature from the World): Study and appreciation of literature of the world originally written in the 21st century.

Literature comes in many forms. At the same time, it comes from different places of various beliefs and traditions.

Philippines and the world’s literature provide students to see the universe in all its aspects while giving them the chance to know more about their own identity. Thus, this course gives students the chance to be exposed and get immersed into the richer culture it has to offer. Literature adapts to the changes in the 21st century; however, it still progressively teaches values that can be integrated in everyday living.

Students will put into practice the proper understanding of literature with possible ways of analysis and criticism. These will enable them to discover, learn and appreciate literary pieces of the Philippines and the world. Learners in the 21st century are also expected to manifest the core competencies: namely, critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity
